Flamenco Program – Levels 1 to 8

At Alma Viva Dance Studio, we believe that flamenco is an art form that develops over time. Like a craft created with patience and care, meaningful flamenco training requires dedication, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of movement, music, and culture. Our progressive level system guides students through the development of technique, musicality, expression, and artistry while honoring the traditions of flamenco.

L1 – Fundamentals

Discover the foundations of flamenco through proper posture, body alignment, arm and hand movements (braceo and floreo), basic footwork (zapateado), and rhythm (compás). Develop coordination, musicality, confidence, and expression while exploring flamenco culture through simple combinations and introductory movement. No prior experience required.

L2 – Beginner Basic

Build your flamenco technique by developing coordination between arms, hands, head, and footwork. Strengthen rhythm (compás), body awareness, and musicality while exploring beginner styles such as Rumba, Fandangos, and Tangos. Learn simple combinations and begin incorporating flamenco elements such as fan technique and expressive movement.

L3 – Intermediate Basic

Continue refining technique, footwork, coordination, and musical interpretation. Expand your understanding of flamenco rhythm and movement quality while exploring styles such as Caracoles, Alegrías, and Guajiras. Advanced elements such as mantón, bata de cola, abanico, and castanets are incorporated to expand technical skills and artistic expression. Emphasis is placed on performance quality, stage presence, and embodying the authentic spirit of flamenco.

Performance Opportunities

Throughout the academic year, students may have opportunities to share their progress through performances at community events, festivals, and theatre presentations organized by Alma Viva Dance Studio.

We believe that flamenco, like any meaningful art form, develops with patience and dedication. Great dancers are built over time through consistent practice, attention to detail, musical understanding, and a deep connection with the art. Our goal is not only to teach steps, but to nurture confident dancers who understand and respect the essence of flamenco.

A Welcoming Space for Every Student

While performance opportunities are an important part of the flamenco journey, participation is always optional. Students who wish to take flamenco classes simply to stay active, enjoy movement, build confidence, and explore this beautiful art form without performing are equally welcome.

At Alma Viva, every student is encouraged to experience flamenco in a way that feels meaningful to them—whether their goal is personal growth, cultural exploration, or stepping onto the stage.
